Don’t complicate things – Ezekwesili warns NASS against alleged secret move to pass Water Bill

There is a strong indication that Government has mobilised lawmakers to expedite action on the controversial Water Resources Bill passage during the ongoing Christmas holidays.

A top source in the National Assembly, who spoke under confidentiality, disclosed this on Wednesday.

The National Water Resources Bill is sponsored by Sada Soli from the Kaita/Jibia Constituency of Katsina State.

Soli also serves as the House of Representatives Committee on Water Resources chairman.

Recall that earlier attempts had been made to pass the controversial bill but it met stiff resistance stemming from mounting opposition across the country, especially in the southern parts.

“This is a bill which we have rejected several times. It is all clear they have not given up on it. Nigerians have said they don’t want it, but they insist they must impose it on them by all means.

“We heard they want to bring it up anytime during plenary, seeing that most of our members will not attend the session,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, in a tweet via her Twitter handle, warned that the National Assembly should not complicate things more.

She tagged the National Assembly, the Senate, Ahmad Lawan (the Senate President), the House of Representatives, and Femi Gbajiabiamila (the Speaker of the House of Representatives) in her post.
