Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency: INEC declares Musa Agah of PDP winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday declared Musa Agah of the PDP winner of the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency seat in Plateau State in the recently conducted National Assembly polls.

Agah polled 87, 609 votes to defeat his closest rival and current member, Gwani Alkali of the PRP who got 67 331 votes while the candidate of the Labour Party, Daniel Asama scored 41, 950 votes.

The results were declared by the Returning Officer of the Constituency, Prof Josiah Mutihir, in Jos, the State capital, under tight security.

Recall that on Monday, thugs invaded the collation centre for the Presidential and National Assembly elections for the Northern Senatorial District of the state and disrupted the result collation process.

The thugs invaded the venue and chased away officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other ad-hoc staff of the commission and halted the process.

Newsmen gathered that trouble started when the Returning Officer for the Jos North/Bassa constituency election, asked party agents to sign the result which indicates that the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Agah, scored the highest votes.

The Returning Officer for the Presidential election for Jos North local government area, Dr Lazurus Maigoro, confirmed the incident to journalists.

He said, “Yes, it is true that thugs invaded our collation centre while we were doing our job. It is now up to the INEC to know what to do next”.
