Re-dedicate yourselves to selfless service of humanity – Ekiti SSG advises NLC leaders

Secretary to the Ekiti State Government, Dr Habibat Adubiaro, has advised the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, to re-dedicate themselves to selfless service for improved welfare of their followers.

Adubiaro gave the advice when the newly elected members of the State Executive of the Union, led by its Chairman, Comrade Kolapo Olatunde paid a courtesy visit to her in her office in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The SSG, in her remarks, said that the union has always been on the side of the generality of the people over and above their personal interest, with a call on them to uphold the tenet for them to be successful.

As a unionist, who has served as the Vice Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, FUOYE chapter, Dr Adubiaro reminded the union leaders of the need for them to always stand by the truth and refuse to be bought over.

“NLC has always been known for championing the good cause of the people. You don’t fight for yourself but fight for the benefit of others. You also stand by the truth and refuse to be bought over.

“As once a unionist like you and former vice chairman of ASUU, I was known for always standing for what is just and of benefit to others which was testified to by my former colleagues when they paid me visit after my appointment as SSG. When you refused to be bought over and keep up standing, they will know your worth, what you can do, where they can even defend you too,” she said.

She cautioned them against being confrontational while agitating for the rights and privileges of their members, adding that they should explore every available civil means of dialogue to press home their demands.

Adubiaro commended the labour unionists for fighting for the betterment of workers at all times, assuring them that the Governor Biodun Oyebanji-led administration would not renege on its electioneering promises to the state government workers.

“I really appreciate you because you have fought for the good cause of the people and I know that this administration will never forget you and keep his promise with you,” she said.

Earlier, the NLC Chairman Comrade Kolapo Olatunde, congratulated the SSG on her appointment and expressed optimism that her good attributes and that of Governor Oyebanji will yield positive results for the progress and development of the state.
