2023 Oscar Winner, Eric Saindon, Undergoes Surgery After Ceremony

A visual effects artist who won an Oscar on Sunday for ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, Eric Saindon, was taken to the hospital with severe pain and eventually underwent surgery for a rupture in his small intestine.

Saindon won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects with Joe Letteri, Richard Baneham, and Daniel Barrett at the 2023 Oscars.

According to the DailyMail, Saindon’s mother, Lila Saindon, told NBC affiliate News Center on Tuesday that Saindon had been experiencing severe pains throughout the day and had visited a hospital as a result prior to the ceremony.

His mother also stated that Saindon was in pain but was determined to attend the Oscars. He dressed up in his tuxedo while still in the hospital to attend the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

After accepting his award with his three colleagues at the show, Saindon doubled over in pain while speaking with reporters and was taken back to the hospital.

It was later determined he had a rupture in his small intestine, which doctors operated on.
