Police, Military Deploy 10,500 To Plateau Ahead Gov Polls

Over 10,500 security personnel from the Nigerian military and police, among other agencies, have been deployed to provide security in Plateau State during the March 18 governorship and state Assembly elections.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of election security in the state, Mamman Daura, disclosed this on Friday while briefing journalists at the Command headquarters in Jos.

Mamman stated that while the military will barricade the entire state in accordance with the restriction of movement on election day, police and other security personnel will be stationed strategically throughout the towns to ensure the safety of people and property.

He said, “Come Saturday 18th March 2023, all 2,789,528 registered voters have the opportunity to exercise their franchise. So far, all necessary machineries have been put in place for the purpose.

“ Adequate deployment of over 10,500 security personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police, the Military, NSCDC, NIS, NCS, NDLEA, Federal Fire Service, to the 4,989 Polling units have been made.

“As we speak, we have received the first batch of the equipment while the second batch is being conveyed from the Force Headquarters, Abuja to the Command.”
