FC Robo claim final NWFL Super Six playoffs ticket after huge win

FC Robo Women of Lagos have qualified for the Super Six playoffs of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, after defeating Confluence Queens of Lokoja 4-0.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that they clinched the final ticket for the playoffs from Group B on the final match day of the competition on Wednesday.

Prior to Match Day 14, five teams —– defending champions Bayelsa Queens, Delta Queens, Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens and Edo Queens —— had qualified for the Super Six.

The last spot was then being contested by FC Robo and Nasarawa Amazons, with the former on 19 points and the latter on 17 points.

A loss to visiting Confluence Queens at the Legacy Pitch at Surulere in Lagos, and a win by Nasarawa Amazons would mean the Lagos-based team would lose the opportunity.

But, goals in the second half by Rukayat Shobowale, Rukayat Oladiti and a brace by Folashade Ijamilusi secured the berth for the Lagos team.

Meanwhile, Osun Babes FC and Ibom Angels have been relegated to the lower tier of the league —— the Championship.

NAN reports that the dates and venue for the playoffs are yet to be officially announced.
