I Don’t Think Fela Died Happy — Yeni Kuti

Yeni, daughter of the pioneer of Afrobeat, Fela Kuti, has said that her father was ill, disillusioned about his country, and didn’t die happily.

Yeni disclosed this in an interview with Chude posted on Instagram on Tuesday.

She said, “I think he was really disillusioned with Nigeria at the time that he died. A lot of things that he sang against were actually happening.

“And sometimes I think, it’s even better he died then, cause if he didn’t die then, he would have died now. So, I don’t think he died happy. ‘Cause he actually lived for his country.

“Fela had the opportunity to live anywhere in the world, but he didn’t. He chose to live here. That’s one thing I love my family for. We all choose to live here cause this is home. Nowhere else is home.”
