Baring the realities around him, where those around him may be stupendously rich, president Muhammadu Buhari would likely remain in Nigeria’s recent history as the poorest president with no record of accumulative and needless wealth ever. Eight years after reigning as president, his Assets Declaration details show almost the same reality before and after office- no record of new bank accounts either in Nigeria or overseas, no added property , his cows decreased in numbers , strangely, he retired to the same house in Daura! Yes, that is a man that sat over wealth but refused to corner them to himself.
You can’t say of his immediate family and aides, information even though unconfirmed has it that these people blindly accumulated wealth for themselves. The consolation is that, in the end, it shall be all men for himself.
And that isn’t even far anymore as the drum of shame and probe has been oiled and sounding already. One of the ministers under Buhari is already in the EFCC net answering questions on how she allegedly misappropriated N2 billion. More of this drumbeat will sound in the days to come, no one would be spared , including Buhari’s immediate family members. But one thing is certain, it will never be a Buhari, a poor president in a rich nation.
Check the picture herein, do you see opulence? No! This is the reality of a man who wants nothing but the mercy of Allah. He has served the people with the best of his ability, what is left for him is the verdict before him on the feet of the Almighty. Having been stripped of power, the man is left with nothing but his deeds. And he seems very at peace with himself. This is what you get when you don’t bother yourself with the burden of materialism.
Juxtapose Buhari’s triumphant end of reign to those before him. On the day he handed over power to his successor, the world followed him in escort to the Airport, there he was bid farewell in honour and reverence. In Katsina, the people waited in million counts to welcome their son in pride. And since then, he has not stopped receiving people in his Daura home where modesty greets you – he didn’t build on hills like others he chose to remain in his ancestral robe.
Buhari’s doorbell keeps jiving with visitors upon visitors, governors, lawmakers, and citizens have been trooping to him in awe and appreciation. For many years to come, his phone will keep ringing , because he was a man who came to power with nothing and left with nothing but heightened character and integrity.
Awesomely musing
