10th Assembly: Clerk, Others Arrested Over Plot To Install Principal Officers

Reports have indicated that secret agencies have allegedly arrested the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambawal, and other parliamentary staff over an alleged plot to impose leadership on both chambers.

Tambawal alongside his colleagues were said to have been picked up by the secret agents on Monday night in an attempt to coerce them into manipulating the standing rules of the NASS to favour some candidates.

The 10th National Assembly will officially be inaugurated on Tuesday, June 13 and the high point of the event will see the emergence of a new set of leaders.

Tambawal, in a statement last week, said the event will commence by 10 am.

However, some desperate aspirants, believed to have the blessings of the ruling party, made attempts to force the NASS clerk to adjust the time to 8 am.

Having failed to convince other lawmakers-elect to back their candidacy, these individuals are said to have resorted to bullying with Tambawal the latest target.

The objective, it was gathered, is to catch the favourites unaware to emerge victorious through the back door two hours before the stipulated time.
