The few weeks old administration of Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf has opted to restore the old glory of Kano State as both educational and commerce center development as it has commenced the series of initiatives of the Kwankwassiya Movement that are all aimed at repositioning the state to the path of growth, progress and modernity.
Engr. Yusuf popularly called Abba Gida Gida has commenced work where the government of his mentor and Leader of New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso stopped by going back to the numerous schemes that are all geared towards enhancing the quality of education and wellbeing of the average Kanawa which prompted the people of the state to vote massively for the party against the then candidate of incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC).
As a proof of his commitment to enhancing the quality education as well as to provide further access to tertiary education by graciously paying NECO fees for 55,000 students of public schools to enable them sit for the 2023 SSCE.
This gesture which was abandoned by the immediate past government of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, forms parts of the numerous achievements recorded by his administration in the last twenty days at the Government House, saying the intervention became necessary to help beneficiaries of the gesture further their education to the highest level that they desire.
Addressing a press conference in Kano recently, the Governor stated that “As a concerned Government, we must ensure that the progression of your educational pursuit is not stopped and I promptly approved the payment of the examination fees to 55,000 students across the state.
While admonishing beneficiaries to put in their best during the examination, further assured the people of the state that his administration is coming up with policies and programmess that would improve the education sector, because education is the bedrock of development of any society.
To underscore his commitment to educational development of the state as he has directed the Secretary to the State Government to commence processing post-graduate scholarship awards to qualified students to study overseas. Those that would be eventually awarded are those with First class Honours Degrees.
It may be recalled that the last scholarship was offered in 2015 by the Rabiu Kwankwaso led administration which sponsored the third batch of 503 first class graduates to different 14 countries around the globe.
Since assuming office last month, Gov. Abba Gida Gida has been up to the task of remaking of a new Kano, especially in the area of restoring the commercial city’s master plan and reclaiming public spaces that were illegally shared among the cronies of the former governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
