Tribunal sacks Kano state governor

..orders re-run

The Kano State Gubernatorial Election Tribunal has annulled the Kano governorship election which produced Abba Kabir Yusuf as winner.
Daily Report Nigeria reports that the tribunal ordered a rerun between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The judgment follows a petition brought forward by the APC, challenging the outcome of the March 18 gubernatorial election in the state.

The ruling follows a thorough examination of the evidence and arguments presented by both parties.

The Tribunal found merit in the APC’s petition and declared that irregularities and substantial non-compliance with electoral laws had occurred during the initial election.

As a result, the tribunal ordered a rerun election in Kano State, with the APC and NNPP candidates as the leading contenders.

With the ruling, the Independent National Electoral Commission will announce date for the rerun election with both parties expected to engage in rigorous campaigns to secure the electorate’s support.
