No fewer than three people have died as a result of a clash that occurred in Iwajowa Local Government Area in Oyo State.
Newsmen learnt that the clash between herders and farmers occurred at Inayin-Apakolo Agbaruru village in Iwere-Ile on Friday and did not abate until Sunday.
Sources who spoke with newsmen on Monday maintained that four people, including a member of Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN), also known as Amotekun, were killed while the clash lasted.
According to the sources, the people of the area called the attention of security agents when the clash broke out, but the security agents deployed were ambushed by the attackers.
One Amotekun member died as a result of the attack, while another one is receiving treatment in a hospital, a source claimed.
Chairman of Oke Ogun Development Forum (OODF), Iwajowa Local Government Area, John Opeyemi Olalere, also confirmed the incident in a post on his Facebook page, where he wrote: “Sympathy is with the families of Mr Wasiu Alabi, Mr Akeem Osa, and Mr Yakubu, Amotekun officer, who lost their lives [to attacks] by Fulani herdsmen at Inayin-Apakolo Agbaruru Village in Iwere-Ile community, Iwajowa LGA, Oyo State.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, when contacted, said: “Investigation has commenced. Updates would be provided accordingly.”
