Jigawa Assembly suspends 3 LGA chairmen

The Jigawa State House of Assembly had suspended three local government council chairmen in the state.

The suspended chairmen include Hon Mubarak Ahmed of Birniwa local government, Hon Rufai Sunusi, Gumel local government and Hon Umar Baffa of Birniwa local government.

The suspension follows allegations that the chairmen travelled to Rwanda without seeking permission from the state executive or the legislature.

The House took the decision after the Chairman of the House Committee on Local Government Affairs, Hon Aminu Zakari Tsubut, forwarded a motion for the suspension the affected council chairmen.

He narrated that, prior to their trip, the House had directed the local government council chairmen in the state not to travel anywhere due to the preparation of the 2024 Appropriation Bill and its presentation to the Assembly by Governor Umar Namadi.

Tsubut described the action of the chairmen as insubordination, which ought to be investigated and punish according to the law.

The House unanimously approved the suspension of the three local government chairmen and directed their deputies to take over.

The House equally constituted a committee under the chairmanship of the Majority Leader, Hon Lawan Muhammad Dansure, to investigate the matter and report back within four weeks for further action.
