Crack in Nasarawa PDP as Sen Ewuga throws support behind Governor Sule

…says Governor was reelected

Ahead of the Supreme Court judgement in the Nasarawa State governorship tussle, a crack has appeared in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with former deputy governor and former minister, Senator Solomon Ewuga, throwing his support behind Governor Abdullahi Sule.

Senator Ewuga, while speaking to journalists shortly after visiting the Government House, on Friday, said Governor Sule was reelected by the people of Nasarawa State.

He explained that Governor Sule has what it takes to add value to governance in the state, stressing that, he is coming out of his political hiatus because of the need for him to do the right thing.

“I have been out of circulation for a reason. But by any definition, man is a political animal. And so you never get removed totally from the process that engages people in politics. That is the scenario in Nasarawa State.

“I think the main issue is the case at the Supreme Court. As long as anybody is open to questions arising to the legitimacy of his power, it creates anxiety. I think that is the situation we have in Nasarawa State today.

“In the first place, having public service experience, and exposure, I am always in a situation where I would say he was reelected. The only thing is it’s being challenged. The fact that that comes into play means that he is the Governor. The implication is the fact that he is a desired quantity in the administration of the state. The judgement of the people has already stated what I will say. And I think that is what it is,” he added.

Ewuga pointed out that coming from his background and experience from the organized private sector, Governor Sule would continue to add value to governance in the state.

“Deal with the person you have in front of you and the person I am dealing with is Engineer Abdullahi Sule. I didn’t know him that much. It’s his father that we knew because he used to visit my father. I got to know him later on. He has had varied experience, private sector experience. He was in the Jos Steel Rolling Mills, he worked in the US and then he came back to work with an oil company before joining Dangote.

“These experience impacts on the way he conducts himself. And you see it. My own wish all the time is for him to be successful. There is nothing as good as one ending your service to the acclaim of people and you yourself feeling that the acclaim is deserved. Once you live with those objectives in your mind you are happy with yourself. You have succeeded.

“A few days ago, we witnessed the matriculation of studebts at the faculty of engineering in Gudi as part of the Nasarawa State University Keffi complex. Nasarawa State will keep expanding in that value judgement and that is what you will see how successful the government will be. It’s our wish continously we will have a value addition in the way our state is orienting itself towards having a desirable stability for the people of Nasarawa State,” he stated.

On his planned return to the APC alongside his teeming supporters, Senator Ewuga said even though he is no longer nursing any political ambition, he is returning to the foundation (APC) he laid in order to complete the building.

“I am coming to the foundation we laid. If you are coming back to your foundation we laid wouldn’t you desire the building to be completed? I think it’s only proper to do the right thing.

“But you know that my wish for a political office has narrowed because of the increased value of younger people. I am becoming less and less gladiatorial in my political posture,” he said.

He confirmed that plans are underway for his return to the APC with his supporters.
