Otu, Wife Fete Kinsmen, Urge Unity At New Year

The excitement was palpable as the ancient town of Adiabo came alive as the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, and his wife, Rev. (Mrs) Eyoanwan Otu, celebrated the beginning of the New Year year in his ancestral home, Okurikang, Odukpani Local Government.

The village was agog as thousands of people flocked to the governor’s country home to welcome and pay homage to him and his family.

In a rare display of affection for a worthy son and in a carnival like atmosphere, indigenes of Adiabo and neighboring communities put on display of several masquerades, cultural dances, special presentation, age grade comraderie and volunteer services.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Wife of the Governor, Rev. Mrs Eyoanwan Otu, generously distributed food items and clothing to women, youth groups, and other identified groups within the Adiabo Okurikang Community.

This act of love and compassion further emphasized the governor’s commitment to the welfare of his people.

Governor Otu took the opportunity to address his kinsmen and Cross Riverians, emphasizing the significance of unity.

He highlighted the importance of standing together as unit and working towards a common goal of progress and development.

“They must be unity and love, I want all of us to join hands together, we must come together as a people to rebuild our state.

“My promise is that we will deliver the state. We will build a strong and egalitarian Cross River State that our people will be proud of.

“Let me thank everyone who came from far and near to celebrate this day with us,” the governor said.

During the celebration, Rt. Hon. Bassey Akiba, member of the House of Representatives representing Calabar Municipality – Odukpani Federal Constituency, lauded Governor Otu for his strong connection to the community and his genuine concern for the well-being of his people.

He said the huge and colourful turnout was a true reflection of the spirit of sweetness flowing across the state

The event had in attendance, top government functionaries, elder statesmen and members of the public, serving as a platform for the governor to connect with his kinsmen and stakeholders.
