Bye-election: APC breaks PDP’s dominance in Kaduna, wins State Assembly election

The candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) Mr. Jesse David, has won the bye-election held for Chikun constituency seat for the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Mr. Jesse David was declared winner on Sunday by the Returning Officer, Prof. Jamilu Ya’u of the Ahmadu Bello university, Zaria said David of APC won with 18, 566 votes to defeat his closest rival, Mrs Maria Samuel-Dogo of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 10,903 votes.

Prof. Ya’u also announced that Adamu Solomon of Labour Party (LP) came third, haven scored 3,285 votes.

Recalled that the late Madami Garba, who died three days after inauguration in 2023 was of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, an incident that led to the bye-election.

Meanwhile, the outcome of the bye-election had drawn many attentions as the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) who never won election in the LG ended the over 25 years of PDP’s dominance in the constituency.

Speaking with Nigerian News-Direct Reporter shortly after the announcement, Political Analyst, Hon. Victor Bobai said the emergence of APC in the region is as a result of the pivotal role of strategic negotiation and persuasive intelligence put up by the state’s Commissioner for local Government and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Sadiq Mamman Lagos.

Bobai said, “the significance of this victory cannot be understated. With APC now in control of Chikun LGA, it is evident that a new political era has been birthed in Kaduna. Governor Uba Sani’s ability to prove himself as a Governor for all citizens is a testament to the inclusive and impactful governance that Mamman Lagos has championed.

“This triumph also signifies a seismic shift in the political landscape of the state. Mamman Lagos’ efforts across the 23 LGAs in Kaduna have solidified the APC’s position, indicating that the party has come to stay in the region.

“The successful outcome in Chikun demonstrates Mamman Lagos’ astute political acumen and his ability to navigate complex political terrains. Through strategic maneuvering and effective coalition building, Mamman Lagos has not only secured victory in Chikun but also paved the way for a sustained APC presence in Kaduna. The long-term implications of this achievement are far-reaching, as it sets the stage for continued political dominance and effective governance in the region.”

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state House of Assembly Member elect for Chikun constituency, Kaduna state Hon. Jesse David has pledged his Commitment to work for the betterment of the constituent.

Jesse in his acceptance speech immediately after his declaration said, “as your representative, I am committed to working for the betterment of Chikun and representing our community to the best of my abilities. I assure you that I will seek your input and strive to fulfill your expectations. Together, we can achieve great things for our community.”
