N96bn subvention for February 2024: I’m not a thief!, Says Gov. Sule

The heat is obviously on the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule as the people of his North Central state, especially those in his local government area have taken him up over financial matters.

The heat is such that even the Nasarawa State chief executive himself has come out to deny stealing the state government money for his personal use.

The governor debunked the allegation of stealing money very recently while replying to his critics, especially those who he said have continuously spread false and misleading information against him, and urged the Nasarawa State people not to pay heed to his detractors because his administration is transparent and accountable to them.

According to Governor Sule who spoke on the matter last Thursday, “Your son, A. A. Sule is not a thief and he shall not be a thief. All the money we received, we will show everybody what we received.”

The governor decried the relentless criticisms against him and his administration which he said came especially from his home local government area where social media is being used to discredit his administration.

He specifically dismissed reports trending on social media which indicate that his administration collected N96bn as subvention for the month of February this year, and said that it is not true that such amount ever came to the state.

Hear the governor: “But in reality, our people, especially here in my home of Akwanga, are experts in social media. You will see all kinds of social media stories. I want you to pay less attention to some of these social media stories.”

It appears that Governor Sule’s trouble emanated from a statement credited to his Abia State counter, the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti who made a remark that exposed the underbelly of the governors.

The Abia State chief executive recently made a direct reference to non-performance of Nigerian governors and also called them names.

He shocked Nigerians when he said, “I have not done 5 percent of the 100 percent plans I have for Aba. I am here to shock Nigerians and tell them that their governors are thieves. By the time I’m done working, you will stone your governor anywhere you see him.”
