The non-teaching staff of the Federal University of Lafia have joined the one-week nationwide strike declared by the national body of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU.
The leaders of the various unions gathered at the main gates of the take-off and permanent sites of the school in Lafia to ensure that none of their members had access to the campuses of the institution.
The University workers were seen displaying placards with messages that included “Pay Us Our Four Months Withheld Salaries,” “Non-Teaching Staff of Universities are Equally Important,” and “Refusing to Pay Us Our Salaries is an Act of Victimization.”
The Chairman of SSANU, Federal University of Lafia branch, Comrade Daniel Dajen, while briefing journalists, said they had resolved to comply fully with the directive to embark on a one-week nationwide strike due to the non-payment of their four months withheld salaries.
Dajen called on the teaching staff of the university to remain steadfast in the course of the struggle and stay away from their duty posts until further directives.
