Benue govt distributes food and non-food items to IDPs

Benue State Government has commenced the distribution of essential food and non-food materials to displaced persons who were victims of herdsmen invasion in the state.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA, James Iorpuu performed the distribution exercise on Wednesday at BSEMA headquarters, Makurdi, on behalf of the State Governor.

Iorpuu while flagging off the exercise said the distribution of food and non-food materials is targeted at Internally Displaced Persons,
IDP camps and those who were recently displaced in Kwande, Katsina–Ala, Ukum, Apa, Okpokwu, Agatu and Guma among other affected communities.

He explained that the gesture was part of Governor Alia’s gesture in the spirit of both Easter and a continuation of routine food assistance to displaced populations affected by armed herdsmen and other forms of disasters.

Iorpuu commended Alia for consistently responding to the plights of IDPs, assuring that all the relief materials would reach them before the Easter celebration.

The assorted food items range from thousands of bags of 25kg rice, 25kg beans, 25kg maize, 25kg Garri and hundreds of gallons of red and vegetable oil.

Non-food items, NFIs, distributed include mattresses, detergents and soap among other items.
