Why Bayer Leverkusen are Bundesliga champions

Victor Boniface has revealed the reason behind Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title success.

Die Werkself were crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time in their 102-year history after a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen at the BayArena on Sunday.

Leverkusen ended Bayern Munich’s 11-year reign in the German top-flight.

Xabi Alonso’s side are also unbeaten across all competitions this season.

Boniface attributed the team’s success to manager Alonso and depth of the squad.

“The coach reads the games very well,” Victor Boniface explained.

“Just look at the match against West Ham (UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg): both scorers are players who came on.

“Xabi Alonso knows what the team needs during the match to perform well.

“We have a group of 20-25 players, not 11, and everyone gives 100% whenever they get their chance.”

Despite spending around three months on the sidelines due to an adductor injury, the striker remains the club’s top scorer.

The 23-year-old has registered 18 goals and 10 assists in 27 appearances across all competitions.
