FCT Police orders probe into fatal stabbing of Veritas Uni student

The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Benneth Igweh, has ordered an urgent investigation into the death of a student at Veritas University in Abuja.

The student, a 100-level computer science student identified as Joshua Èjuojo Daniel-Ejigbo, was earlier on Tuesday reported to have died while exercising at the campus gymnasium.

However, it was later discovered that he had five stab wounds on his back and his ribs, a development that was hidden from the family.

The university was said to have called the deceased’s father to inform him about the incident, saying that the boy slumped and died.

A human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who is representing the family, disclosed that the parents of the deceased student suspected foul play and gross negligence.

The family further alleged that they found five stab wounds on the back and ribs side of the deceased student.

A statement by the Spokesman of FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh said, “The CP has directed the Deputy Commissioner in charge of CID to conduct a discreet investigation on the matter.”
