NAFDAC, Abia govt declare war against fake drugs, substandard foods

The Abia State government and the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, have declared a collective war against fake drugs, substandard foods and other unwholesome products in the country.

The partnership was made known by Governor Alex Otti at the government house in Umuahia when he received the Director General of NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye and her team who were in the state for an official assignment.

The Governor, who regretted that a lot of lives have been lost as a result of fake drugs and substandard products, vowed that his administration would stop at nothing in its fight to eradicate fake products.

He said his administration has already set up a harmonized task force to fight against negative tendencies assuring the NAFDAC DG that Abia State is poised to maximize the positive energy of youths and channel them to positive ventures.

Earlier in her address, the DG NAFDAC, Prof Adeyeye who is in the state for stakeholder engagement with the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, emphasized NAFDAC’s fight against fake drugs, substandard foods and other unwholesome products.

She canvassed a harnessed MSME industry and coordinated wholesale centers where people who market drugs and other related products can be monitored.
