RCCG suspends senior pastor, Iluyomade over wife’s birthday party

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG has reportedly suspended the Senior Pastor of the City of David parish in Victoria Island, Lagos State, Pastor Idowu Iluyomade.

Newsmen gathered that the suspension is not unconnected to the public outcry that followed the extravagant birthday party of his wife, Siji Iluyomade.

Recall that Siji, on February 18, 2024, got tongues wagging after her colourful 60th birthday which came shortly after the death of former CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, a prominent member of the church.

A video clip from the birthday party showed a popular Nigerian singer, Flavour N’abania, serenading her with his hit songs, such as Ada Ada, Berna and Adamma.

Some netizens, who took to their social media handles, questioned the presence of a secular singer at a party hosted by a pastor.

Newsmen learnt on Monday that the Governing Council of the church, after looking into the matter, suspended Pastor Iluyomade for three months.

Sources from the church told The Nation that Iluyomade has since been replaced by Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish of Region 11 of the church. He resumed on Sunday.

According to a top pastor, there was a need to “investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”

The sources confirmed that “it was not Pastor Adeboye that suspended him. The governing council decided to suspend him. I think it’s a decision in the right direction.

Though some believe it is coming late. They needed to investigate some of the things people were saying against him and the church.”
