Emirship tussle: FHC assumed jurisdiction against Supreme Court precedent – Odinkalu

Ex-Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, has said that the declaration of jurisdictional powers by a Federal High Court over the Emirship tussle in Kano State goes against the precedent of the Supreme Court.

Odinkalu highlighted that the Supreme Court precedent had existed since 1988.

“BREAKING: @FederalHigh in Kano has decided that it has jurisdiction over the matter of the Emirship of Kano. Strictly speaking, that overrules @SupremeCourtNg precedent that has existed since 1988!,” Odinkalu wrote on his X handle on Thursday.

Recall that the Bayero and the Sanusi families are in a supremacy battle over the Emirate stool in the ancient city of Kano.
