APC vows to challenge conduct of election

The All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State has announced that it will not participate in the October 5th local government election.
The Chairman of the APC Caretaker Committee in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, disclosed this in an interview, citing flaws in the election process.

Okocha pointed out that the APC, under his leadership, was not invited to the stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) on Monday, where the election date was announced.

Addressing reports that all political parties were represented at the stakeholders’ meeting, Okocha clarified that no legitimate member of the APC attended.

Okocha emphasized that while the APC will not boycott the election outright, the party will take legal steps to ensure the election does not proceed until the existing issues in the state are resolved.

Recall that the tenure of the former local government chairmen expired on June 17, leading Governor Siminalayi Fubara to appoint Caretaker Committee Chairmen to fill the administrative gap left by the outgoing chairmen.
