Make history by releasing Nnamdi Kanu – Ohanaeze youths to Tinubu

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make history by ordering the release of the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

This is also as it hailed the South-East governors and the Senators from the region over their recent move towards Kanu’s release.

It could be recalled that South-East governors met in Enugu on Tuesday where they resolved to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and request for Kanu’s release.

Also on Wednesday, 15 senators from the zone, led by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe met with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and submitted a letter appealing to Mr President to authorize Kanu’s freedom.

Reacting to the developments, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement on Wednesday, expressed delight that the Igbo leaders have risen to the occasion.

Okwu said the Ohanaeze Youths had been at the forefront of demand for a political solution to Kanu’s trial, noting that it had become so expedient for the Federal Government to free Kanu in the interest of peace and security in the South-East.

He said, “for several years the South-East has been bedevilled with insecurity and there has been no workable solution, even with the prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

“This is why we have always insisted that the gains of releasing him far outweighs whatever reasons being adduced against setting him free through dialogue.

“We commend the South-East Governors Forum and the Senate caucus for this bold step and urge Mr President, the father of the nation, to accede to their request.

“The release of Nnamdi Kanu to the Igbo leaders would no doubt endear the people to Mr President and make him, the President, a man of history.

“Kanu himself has offered to negotiate with the government and our passionate appeal is that this peace window should not be neglected,” Okwu pleaded.
