Court sentences 2 men to 4 years in jail for aiding terrorism

A Federal High Court in Ibadan has sentenced two men to four years imprisonment each for aiding and abetting terrorism.

The convicts, Abiodun Oguntosin and Rasaq Agboola were arraigned on two counts of aiding and abetting terrorism as well as possession of live ammunition.

Delivering judgment, Justice Ekerete Akpan said that Oguntosin and Agboola were convicted based on the overwhelming evidence tendered by the Department of State Services (DSS) in addition to their plea of guilt.

”I hope that the convicts have learnt their lessons in a bitter way.

”The court shall apply the full wrath of the law against you if caught again.

”However, to serve as a deterrent to others, each of the convicts is sentenced to four years in prison.

”The live ammunition and trucks found in the possession of the convicts are forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria through the DSS,” Akpan said.

Earlier, the DSS Prosecution Counsel, Mr T.A. Nurudeen, told the court that Oguntosin and Agboola committed the offences on April 8, at Palupo-Itesiwaju, Akure South, Ondo State.

He said that the convicts were apprehended by DSS operatives while conveying 60,250 rounds of 32mm cartridges, and 149mm Dina Gaza and red Star brand cartridges in two trucks.

The offences, Nurudeen said, contravened the provisions of Section 20 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
