COSEYL tells Tinubu – 20 trucks of rice given to govs won’t reach targeted Nigerians

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, has expressed scepticism on the possibility of the 36 state governors distributing the 20 trucks of rice given to them by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris on Monday disclosed that Tinubu’s government distributed 20 trucks of rice to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT to address the issue of food shortage in the country.

Reacting to the development, COSEYL in a statement issued on Tuesday by its President General, Goodluck Ibem said the 20 trucks of rice could be diverted by the state governors.

The group alleged that such palliatives previously given to governors were appropriately distributed.

“The 20 trucks of rice shared to various states through the governors will not get to the common man.

“The governors will convert the rice for their personal use and share a little with their families, friends and well-wishers, leaving the common man for which the President has in mind in giving out the rice.

“This has happened in the past where palliatives given to states through the governors ended up in the various houses of the governors who received them.

“The President should devise other means of reaching out to the masses who truly and sincerely need the rice”, the statement added.
