A civil society organisation, Peoples Alliance for Democracy, PAD, has alleged that a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere, has launched a plot to undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu raising security concerns.
The plot involves rallying opposition forces in the country against the administration preparatory to the 2027 general elections.
Spokesperson of the group, Comrade Chinedu Ibe, said the legislator of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rather than focus on lawmakers, was more given to demarketing the present administration by insinuating that the critical petroleum sector is steeped in opacity and corruption.
“President Tinubu is the substantive Minister of Petroleum Resources. So, when Mr. Ugochinyere makes those his wild allegations about the petroleum sector, who invariably is he attacking? The president,” Ibe said.
According to him, “PAD is aware that most rep members are concerned at the subtle campaign currently embarked upon by the opposition legislator -Ugochinyere – to target the petroleum sector and portray the APC-led federal administration officials supervising the sector as complicit in the alleged maladministration of the sector.
“This move has security implications, therefore, we call on the various security agencies to be alert to his antics to sow chaos and anger towards President Tinubu and his administration.
“You will recall that last Friday he led five other members to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta where the former leader accused the lawmakers of fixing their own salaries, a charge the National Assembly has denied.
“It is sad that Ugochinyere couldn’t correct that notion because it serves his destabilisation agenda against the government of the day.
“Going forward, the PAD will continue to watch all those intent on disrupting government’s activities and counter them appropriately.”
