Maresca to cut down Chelsea squad to 24 players

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, is looking to trim down his bloated squad as the new season approaches, the UK Telegraph reports.

Maresca is preparing for his first season at Stamford Bridge, after replacing Mauricio Pochettino this summer.

Having inherited a large squad, Maresca now wants to cut it down to a manageable size.

It is believed Chelsea are hoping to have a first-team squad of around 23 or 24 outfield players.

This means that a number of players are in line to leave either permanently or on loan.

A £54m deal to sign Neto from Wolves, means Chelsea have made 12 summer signings, spending £243m since June 14.

This has increased the Blues’ squad to more than 50 senior players.
