ALGON seeks promotion of Rule of Law at grassroots

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, has called for increased awareness programmes to promote the rule of law at the grassroots level.

The National President of ALGON, Aminu Maifata, made this call on Thursday in Abuja while presenting the concerns of the 774 local government areas at the National Summit of Fiscal Responsibility Agencies.

The summit, with the theme: “Building Resilient Fiscal Framework: A Collaborative Approach,” aimed to promote a collaborative approach to building a resilient fiscal framework for effective governance.

Represented by the Executive Chairman of Jalingo Local Government of Taraba state and National Welfare, ALGON-NEC, Hassan Aminu Jauro, the ALGON National President applauded the Executive Chairman of Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Victor Muroko, for convening the summit to address critical governance issues.

Maifata also harped on the need to consider access to criminal justice, reform, and anti-corruption measures with efforts to partner with some agencies like the EFCC, ICPC, and others.

He also advocated the promotion of public accountability in the workplace, building accountable and responsible governance for effective service delivery at the local level

The ALGON National President stressed the need for stakeholders’ synergy, adding that such would promote development.
