Five suspects arrested for alleged tricycle theft, sale in Bauchi

Police operatives in Bauchi have arrested five people, including a female suspect, for allegedly stealing and selling tricycles stolen from Kano State.

According to a statement issued by the Spokesperson of the Bauchi Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, on Tuesday, the female suspect, identified as Maryam Ibrahim, is accused of receiving and selling the stolen tricycles,

Maryam allegedly sold the seven stolen tricycles, commonly known as “Keke Napep,” within Bauchi.

Investigations by the Police further revealed that she conspired with four accomplices: Adamu Sale (30), Umar Ibrahim (31), Nasiru Usman (29), and Nasiru Musa Umar (27), all from different parts of Bauchi to perpetrate the act.

The suspects were arrested after a coordinated effort by the State Intelligence Department, which acted on credible information about their activities.

During the operation, the police recovered the seven stolen tricycles.

SP Wakil stated that receiving stolen property is a serious criminal offence under Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act, which can lead to a prison sentence of up to 14 years.

Meanwhile, the suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded.
