The Chief Executive Officer of Barnksforte, Adedayo Bankole, has warned Nigerians to be careful about how they manage their data.
He said that there are criminal elements out there looking for the opportunity to steal individuals’ data and use them for criminal purposes.
Bankole gave the warning during the National Day of Identity 2024 held in Abuja on Monday.
He noted that cybercrime is a global trend but added that works are under way to “use the best industry standard in terms of transmission in data waves”.
“When you’re transmitting and processing. There’s data protection law that allows us to make sure that there are protocols that are used in terms of how you transmit data and how you prepare data. That is being put in place.
“There’s more scrutiny and more technology being deployed to make sure that a lot of data is being protected. So if you look into the modification systems, you will find out that we make sure that we verify the ownership of the data in order not to allow someone else to use your data.
“To be honest with you, it’s a lot of effort. The criminals are out there. Criminals want to use your data to do a lot of things and we are working so hard to make sure we put the protection in place,” he added.
According to reports, President Bola Tinubu had during the event told Nigerians that their unique proof of identity emphasizes their basic human right to protection, sustenance and support as a recognized member of society wherever they are.
