Oyo govt orders officials to stop marking, demolition of buildings

The Oyo State Government has instructed officials of the Ministry of Lands and Urban Development to stop marking and demolishing houses beyond the 150-meter mark along the Ibadan Circular Road.

The state government made this announcement on Friday.

According to reports, some residents, whose houses were affected by the ongoing construction of the Ibadan Circular Road, have been protesting at the state Secretariat since Wednesday.

However, the state government has now ordered officials of the ministry to halt the marking of properties.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Williams Akin-Funmilayo, made this declaration on Friday.

He emphasized that the current administration in the state will continue to prioritize the welfare of its citizens and residents to foster growth and development.

The commissioner explained that the governor has not acquired any land within the corridor of the Circular Road since 2019, when he assumed office.

He added that the Circular Road project is divided into two phases.

According to him, one phase covers 150 meters, while the second phase covers 350 meters.

He assured that adequate compensation will be paid to affected homeowners.

He further clarified that the marking of buildings does not necessarily mean they will be demolished.

“The governor, ever since he came on board, has not acquired a single square meter along the Circular Road. What the governor met on the ground when he assumed office is what we are developing, and that is established.

“The Circular Road is divided into two phases: the 150-meter segment and the 350-meter segment.

“The 150-meter part is what we are clearing now for development and the construction of the project.

“The state government will do its best to minimize the impact of the construction of this road,” he said.
