Jigawa LG polls will hold as scheduled – State govt

Jigawa State Government has disputed rumours alleging that the upcoming local government election scheduled for October 5, 2024 was postponed.

Special adviser to the Governor on election matters, Hon. Abbas Ibrahim disclosed this in a statement.

He said the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission, JISIEC, had no power to change the date of the election without the consent of the political parties and other relevant stakeholders.

He said both the parties must agree and with valid reasons for the postponement of the election.

According to him, “I have contacted the secretary of the commission and he confirmed to me that there is nothing like that”.

Abbas explained that the state government had directed the JISIEC to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections.
