Paul Scholes questions Man Utd over signing one player after 3-0 defeat

Manchester United Legend, Paul Scholes has questioned the signing of Matthijs de Ligt following the Red Devils’ Premier League 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Three goals from Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke gave Man United the win over Man United at Old Trafford.

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes was shown a straight red card for a reckless foul on James Maddison during the encounter.

However, Scholes was critical of Man United’s recent summer recruitment and believes De Ligt is no improvement on Harry Maguire, who has made just two starts in the Premier League this season.

“When you bring players in, you expect them to be a lot better than who you’ve already got. I don’t see players coming in who are a big difference,” Scholes told SuperSport.

“De Ligt has come in for Maguire, let’s say, but there is no big difference there.”

Asked whether De Ligt is an improvement on Maguire, Scholes added: “No, absolutely not.”
