Rivers govt creates Judicial Commission of Inquiry into arsons in LG councils

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved the establishment of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killings, and wanton destruction of property at the local government council headquarters that occurred on or around Monday, October 7, 2024.

In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, noted that the governor’s authority to establish the commission is derived from Section 2 of the Commissions of Inquiry Law, Cap 30, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.

According to the statement, the members of the commission are: Justice I.R. Minakiri as Chairman, Inyingi Brown as Secretary, and Felicia Nwoke, Professor Blessing Didia, Samuel Egbe, and Venerable Alex Usifor as members.

Uzor Ikenga will serve as counsel to the commission.

The members of the commission will be sworn in Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt, at 4 p.m.
