In what appears to be a move to mend his fractured relationship with leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Kano, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has met with aggrieved National Assembly members of the party in Abuja.
The meeting, according to the governor who posted on his Facebook timeline, was held to discuss critical issues that concern the state and the party.
It was reliably gathered that the senator Representing Kano South, AbduRahman Kawu Sumaila, Kano State former Speaker and member representing Rano Federal Constituency, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, and others were on the verge of leaving the NNPP.
Their reason for wanting to dump the NNPP, according to reports, was the alleged overbearing influence of the party’s presidential candidate in 2023, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on the Abba Kabir Yusuf government and the downgrading of their Emirates Councils to Second Class Emir’s.
In the same vein, Senator AbduRahman Kawu Sumaila, was accused by some NNPP members of not contributing anything to the successes of the party and the government during the election and the legal tussles that followed.
Sumaila has however been defending himself on social media, reminding those accusing him of how he humbled Senator Kabiru Gaya to win the Kano South Senatorial District up to his case at the Supreme Court.
On his part, Kabiru Alhassan Rirum, the House of Representatives member representing Rano Federal Constituency, has been attacking the government for downgrading the Emir of Rano. He has insisted that he still sees the Rano Emir as a first Class Emir.
However, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has remained silent until Tuesday’s meeting with all the aggrieved NNPP chieftains at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
