PDP gets new chairman in Anambra

Mr Chidi Chidebe on Thursday emerged as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra, following a congress held at the Women Development Centre, Awka.

Chidebe, a former PDP Youth Leader in Anambra polled a total of 1,080 to defeat Amechi Onowu who scored 960 votes.

Charles Anierobi was elected Deputy Chairman while Mr Ebele Onunkwo emerged as Secretary of the party.

Ifeanyi Ossai, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, who was the Chairman of the Anambra PDP Congress Committee, urged the new Chairman to rebuild, restore, and reconcile all aggrieved party members in the state.

Ossai said Anambra was critical to the party and victory could only be achieved when all members were united under one umbrella while urging the new leadership to work with those who contested but did not win.

“Last week, when we failed to conduct the congress, I assured PDP members in Anambra that it would be free, fair, and transparent. I am happy that this came to fruition,” he said.
