Makinde qualified to run for President – PDP chieftain, Okai

Comrade Usman Okai Austin, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal House of Representatives and national coordinator of the National Youths Frontier, has said Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is “overwhelmingly qualified” to pursue the Nigerian presidency.

Okai said Makinde’s two-term leadership in Oyo State and his visible achievements and extensive political experience qualifies him to be President.

The PDP chieftain made the remark while dismissing claims that Makinde is a mole working for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

In a statement he issued, Okai said, “There’s no harm in a governor aspiring for the Presidency.”

He noted that while Makinde has yet to announce his post-tenure intentions, there is natural momentum among supporters calling for his candidacy.

“The decision to contest is solely his,” Okai stated, affirming Makinde’s right to enter the race, if he so chooses.

Okai noted that the 2027 PDP presidential ticket will be determined by delegates from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Though it may be early to speculate, Makinde represents a generational shift in Nigerian politics, which resonates with the younger population.

“As one of Nigeria’s prominent PDP leaders, Makinde has established a nationwide network that could support a presidential bid.”

The PDP chieftain underscored that any decision by the governor to pursue higher office would be a significant milestone for a party increasingly focused on youth-driven leadership and change.

“Makinde, a key player in the PDP, has not commented on the 2027 presidential race but is widely recognized for his commitment to public service and developmental governance in Oyo State,” he added.
