IGP Egbetokun Honored with Democrat Award as Nigeria Celebrates 25 Years of Democracy

The Inspector General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, is set to receive the esteemed Democrat Award in the category of democratic year from the National Democracy Stakeholders Group (NDSG), in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey. This prestigious honor is part of the celebrations marking 25 years of uninterrupted democracy in Nigeria which embodies the goal of the just concluded Nigeria Democracy Week 2024.

Dr. Egbetokun will be joined by 24 other notable Nigerians who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to democracy and good governance. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony, following the successful hosting of the 2nd National Democracy Stakeholders Summit (NDSS) a feature of the Nigeria Democracy Week 2024 in Abuja.

According to Dr. Kleitsaint Akor, Chairman of the Proponent Council of the NDSG, the NDSS serves as a platform to evaluate and strengthen Nigeria’s democratic journey, celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy within its 64 years of statehood.
This milestone achievement underscores Nigeria’s progress in consolidating its democratic institutions and promoting good governance. The recognition of Dr. Egbetokun and other notable Nigerians is a testament to their tireless efforts in supporting and strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.

As the 22nd Inspector General of Police, Dr. Egbetokun has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his duties, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Nigerian citizens. His impressive track record, coupled with his academic achievements, including a PhD in Peace and Security Studies, makes him an exemplary recipient of this award.

Dr. Egbetokun’s contributions to sports development in Nigeria are also noteworthy. He was recently honored with the Special Achievement in Sports Award for his efforts in promoting sports within the Nigeria Police Force and his pursuit of sporting excellence.

Aluta News reports that several notable Nigerians will be receiving the 25 Years Democrats Award. The recipients include former President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Kashim Shetima, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Comptroller General Correctional Services Haliru Nababa and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, others are Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Late Dora Akunyili (post humus) and Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina  This award recognizes their contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
