Nigerian Army Commissions AHOOAS Project in Abuja, Honors Wounded-in-Action Soldiers

As part of efforts to improve welfare of soldiers, the Nigerian Army in what has been hailed as a significant milestone, has commissioned its Affordable Home Ownership Option for All Soldiers (AHOOAS) project in Idu, Abuja.

The project, comprising 100 blocks of 4 flats, will provide housing for 400 families, with 5 percent reserved for soldiers wounded-in-action (WIA), fulfilling a promise made by the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

This was contained in a statement made available by Lieutenant Augustina Nkeonye, theActing Public Relations Officer Post-Service Housing Development Limited.

According to the statement, during the commissioning ceremony, 20 WIA soldiers were honored, with the symbolic handover of house keys.

This fulfilled the mandate of the late COAS to ensure that these heroes received a dedicated share of the housing project.

In his remarks as the Special Guest of Honour, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, lauded the COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for ensuring the continuity of key initiatives and bringing the vision of his late predecessor to fruition.

He expressed pride in the project’s successful commissioning and its lasting impact on the lives of Nigerian Army personnel and their families.

Earlier, The COAS, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, expressed his pride in the successful commissioning of the AHOOAS project in Abuja, fulfilling the vision of his late predecessor.

He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel, highlighting the importance of such initiatives in addressing the needs of soldiers and their families.

Similarly, the MD/CEO, PHDL, Major General Joseph Omali, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the project’s key role in providing Nigerian Army personnel with dignified housing throughout their careers and beyond.

The event featured a vibrant cultural performance, the symbolic handover of house keys, and a group photograph in honor of the soldiers and the welfare scheme initiated to honor their sacrifices and resilience.
