The Grand Knight of St. Mulumba Central District Sub-Council, Sir Christopher Ashibogwu has called on all Christians especially Catholics to always renew their commitment to the legal protection of human life.
Sir Ashibogwu stated this at the 2024 Feast of the Holy Innocence, held at the Church of The Twelve Apostles, Diplomatic Zone, CBD, Abuja.
He noted that the feast is an opportunity to support policies and service ministries that assist mothers and to extend compassion to those suffering from participation in abortion.
According to him, on this feast day, the Church invites us to reflect on the painful story in Matthew’s gospel, where Herod ordered the execution of all young male children, two years and below in Bethlehem. By this means he would avoid the loss of his throne to a new born King of the Jews whose birth had been announced to him by the Magi.
“In our own time, we know there are too many ‘Holy Innocence: children abused in various ways; physical, sexual, emotional… also by abortion. For some people, like Herod, these children count as nothing.
“The feast should make us proactively seek ways to ensure that the children of the world are protected from those who wish to harm them”, Ashibogwu stressed.
Highlights of the event includes procession of the Holy Rosary and Holy Mass.
This years’ feast was celebrated by a combination of Central District Sub-Council, Wuse, Abuja and Asokoro Sub-Councils.
