Again, bandits kill 12 vigilantes in Zamfara

At least twelve vigilantes have lost their lives in a deadly attack by bandits on a community in Zamfara State.

The attack happened in Sabuwar Tunga community at Adabka ward, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the north-west State.

Four other persons were also abducted during the Tuesday onslaught, according security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Makama in post on X on Wednesday night disclosed that the attack began when the gunmen stormed the village but were initially fended off by local vigilantes.

However, as the security volunteers pursued the assailants into the forest, the bandits regrouped and ambushed them.

A security source in the area confirmed the attack, stating, “The community initially repelled them, but unfortunately, the bandits regrouped and ambushed our men, leading to the tragic loss of 12 members.”

The assailants inflicted heavy casualties on the vigilantes before retreating deeper into the forest with their captives.

Security forces have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Un recent year, Zamfara has become the playground of rampaging armed non-state actors who unleash terror on innocent and unarmed citizens of the State.

At least eight people were killed when bandits ambushed a trailer loaded with food items last Friday.

Many others were also abducted during the attack which happened at Matashayi Zaki community, along Dansadau/Gusau road.

The bandits were said to have invaded the area at about 6:00 pm after military escorts had left the trailer be hind.
