The Abia State Police Command has arrested a couple, Sunday Emebo (42) and Blessing Emebo (49), for allegedly operating an unregistered motherless babies’ home and engaging in child trafficking.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, the arrest was made on May 19, 2025, at about 11:45 a.m., following credible intelligence received by the command.
The victims rescued include Ojiugo Caleb ‘m’ 14yrs, Christian okoro ‘m’ 12yrs, Samuel Okoro ‘m’ 13yrs, Clinton Nkemakolam ‘m’ 9yrs, Godwin Emmanuel ‘m’ 10yrs.
Others include Osinachi Nkemakolam ‘m’ 6yrs, Marvelous Emmanuel ‘m’ 5yrs, David Emmanuel ‘m’ 7yrs, Testimony Emebo ‘m’ 2 months, Ogechi Nkemakolam ‘f’ 9yrs, Chinaza Okoro ‘f’ 9yrs and Anointing Okoro ‘f’ 7yrs.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, giving details of the arrest said “On the 19/05/2025 at about 1145 hrs, detectives from Abia State Police Command, leveraging credible intelligence, apprehended one Blessing Emebo, f 49yrs and Sunday Emebo, m 42yrs, for operating an unregistered motherless babies’ home in their apartment at Ikot Ekpene Road, Aba.
“The suspects were found in possession of twelve (12) children, aged between six months and fourteen years, from different villages in Arochukwu.
“The rescued children have been safely handed over to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs for custody. Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing.
“The suspects are currently being interrogated at the state CID, Umuahia and will soon be arraigned in court after the investigation.
“The Command is committed to ensuring the reduction of crime and criminality in the state.
“We advise the public to stay security-conscious and ensure children’s safety.
