The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is facing a major crisis after a son of a former minister resigned, citing a “toxic atmosphere” that stifles creativity and productivity. The resignation comes amid a promotion controversy that has pitted staff members against the management.
According to sources, the young man, whose father served as a former Information Minister and one-time Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, was disturbed by the ongoing irregularities in the commission and handed in his resignation letter. In a post-resignation interview, he blasted the current state of affairs at the NCC, stating that no principled individual would want to continue in such a toxic environment that frustrates creativity.
“The job the young man dumped cannot be done by even three persons,” a source close to the matter revealed. “This goes to tell you how productivity is murdered on the alter of sentiment and discrimination.”
Staff members have accused the management of biased promotion practices, favoring certain individuals or regions over others. The promotion exercise has been marred by allegations of irregularities, with some staff members claiming they were unfairly denied promotions despite meeting the required standards.
