Hilda Baci’s next challenge: A jollof record with 250 bags of rice

Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has announced plans to cook 250 bags of rice in what she described as the world’s biggest pot of jollof rice.

Baci, who gained international recognition in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon, revealed the details of the challenge in a video shared on her Instagram page on Monday.

She explained that the specially constructed pot for the project has a capacity of 22,619 litres.
According to her, the goal is to fill the pot up to at least 75 to 80 per cent, a target that will require about 5,278 kilogrammes of basmati rice.

The chef said the calculation amounts to 264 bags of rice but added that she had settled on using 250 bags for the attempt.

Baci also outlined the condiments required for the cooking, noting that 1,583 kilogrammes of tomato paste would be used.

She said the tomato base will be evenly spread across tomato paste, pepper chicken paste and jollof paste to ensure the meal retains its flavour.

“For one kilogramme of rice, you would need between 0.20 to 0.35, but because it’s Nigerian jollof, I’m going to use 0.30. That means I will need 1,583 kilogrammes of Gino tomato paste,” she explained.
