The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has organized a one-day capacity-building workshop to educate journalists on enhancing digital rights and online safety.
The training, held on Thursday at the CITAD office in Kano, brought together journalists from various radio stations and online newspapers.
The workshop focused on strengthening journalism practice and addressing national, international and local challenges in the journalism system.
While presenting his paper on understanding online safety challenges, Malam Ali Sabo highlighted the difficulties journalists face in accessing information from government officials.
Sabo stressed the importance of equipping journalists with the necessary knowledge and safety skills to carry out their work effectively, both within and outside the country.
Experts at the workshop shared valuable insights with participants, as Engr. Kamal Umar delivered a paper on online safety techniques and tips, while Muhammad Bello Yahaya from CITAD’s Technical and Innovation Department spoke on password security, emphasizing the need for strong password practices among journalists.
The training, which hosted over 20 journalists, aimed to provide participants with practical skills and knowledge to safely navigate the digital space, protect their online presence, and effectively report on issues related to digital rights.
