From a Hut to Stardom: Skales Shares Story of Humble Beginnings

Singer Skales has recounted how he survived his challenging childhood with his late mother in Kaduna, where they lived in modest conditions.

In an interview on the ‘TownHall Different’ podcast, he shared how his mother, a teacher, worked hard to provide for them despite financial struggles.

Skales recalled sleeping on mats in a small hut before they later moved into the boys’ quarters.

“My mum was a teacher, and we didn’t have much. We lived in a hut before moving to a BQ. We slept on the floor with mats, and my mom would spread a wrapper on the floor and sleep. Coming from that kind of background to where I am today is just crazy,” he said.

He also remembered growing up without access to basic amenities like a television, recounting how amazed he was when he first encountered one.

Skales said his breakthrough came after signing with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), which transformed his life and career trajectory.

“The first time I saw TV was when EME signed me. I had my own TV in my room. I used to switch it on and off in amazement,” he joked.
