The immediate past Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, has been described as an icon and patriot who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication during his tenure.
The former Jigawa state governor recently resigned his appointment as a cabinet member in charge of Defense.
Reacting to the development through a Press conference, Wednesday in Dutse, Jigawa state, convener of the Jigawa APC Integrity Group, Comrade Auwalu Shuaibu Gumel, praised Badaru’s exceptional performance in security matters despite his civilian background.
Comrade Gumel highlighted Badaru’s passion and deep understanding of social strife dynamics, which equipped him effectively for the defence role.
Gumel said: “H.E Badaru Abubakar, no doubt, despite his civilian background did tremendously well in areas of security. The passion which he put on the job and his understanding of the dynamics of social strife prepared him for the task.”
He noted that similar smear campaigns targeted Badaru while in office, indicating his impactful work drew opposition from detractors.
Gumel, while dismissing malicious claims of disagreement over alleged US plans to invade northern Nigeria as unpatriotic falsehoods, said Badaru’s resignation was communicated directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for clear reasons.
“Some elements, especially sponsored faceless groups for political reasons, were throwing jabs at H.E Badaru.”
Comrade Gumel emphasized that there is no friction between Tinubu and Badaru; “the former minister remains committed to Nigeria’s security and safety, fully supportive of Tinubu’s success.”
The APC group said Badaru stands as a firm believer in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and vows continued support even after leaving office.
Comrade Gumel praised the former minister Badaru for his impactful legacy in several key areas.
He highlighted consistent gains in the fight against banditry and terrorism across the country, attributing these to Badaru’s leadership rooted in good governance and tangible results for Nigerians’ safety.
“Beyond security, Badaru significantly influenced agriculture by promoting it as a key economic sector, boosting local revenue. These areas—security, agriculture, —constitute the major impacts during Badaru’s tenure as minister according to Comrade Gumel’s remarks.
“Similarly, his tenure advanced military strategy, local production, and regional security efforts, leaving a legacy of stability.”
The group thanked the President for finding one of their own, worthy for this important national assignment
